Richard Prince (b. 1949, Panama Canal Zone) works in a variety of media, including the sourcing of imagery from advertising and popular culture, in order to highlight and re-examine concepts of authorship and ownership. Through a particularly American prism, Prince has probed the depths of racism, sexism, and psychosis in mainstream humor; the mythical status of cowboys, bikers, customized cars, and celebrity. Prince lives and works in upstate New York.
