Yayoi Kusama (born Nagano-ken, Japan 1929) remains one of the most prolific and eccentric figures in the contemporary art world today. Best know perhaps for her repetition of motifs such as polka dots, pumpkins and infinitely painted loops, Kusama is not bound by any one medium. Instead her practice spans painting, sculpture, drawing, collage, print, installation and even crosses over into literature and the world of fashion, most notably collaborating with Louis Vuitton in 2012.

She has remained singularly unique, avoiding broader codification despite being associated with movements such as Surrealism, Eccentric Abstraction, Minimalism and Pop Art amongst others. Her ability to transcend classification has given her wide appeal and her museum shows have garnered record visitor numbers across the world.
